A new, modified text of the Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children was approved and published earlier this year. This musical setting is based on the Nores Acclamations. This follows the idea that rather than have a separate setting for children it is better to develop on an already familiar setting reflecting the overall aim of both the Eucharistic Prayers for Masses with Children and the Directory for Masses with Children — integration with and participation in the Sunday Eucharist.

An innovation in the modified text is the inclusion of the complete set of Eucharistic Acclamations from the Order of Mass in each of the Prayers. (Prior to this the first Prayer did not include the Memorial Acclamation.) For ease, the music for each Eucharistic Prayer is given separately (though this therefore involves a certain amount of repetition). Also provided are a couple of simple tones for the Priest to sing the Prayers — it would seem that the various acclamations will integrate more seamlessly when the whole Prayer is sung. Where this is not possible a ‘cue phrase’ is often given.

The setting has been approved for publication by the Department for Christian Life and Worship.
